In a surprising turn of events, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reversed recent management changes at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), directing the recall of both the Director-General and the Executive Director of News to their previous roles.
According to a press release from the State House, President Tinubu has reinstated Mr. Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General of the NTA. Dembos, who was appointed to the position in October 2023, briefly vacated his post following a shake-up in the agency’s management. He is now set to return and complete his three-year tenure.
The directive also applies to Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, the Executive Director of News. Appointed by the president in 2024, Adewuyi will also be returning to his role to complete his tenure, which is scheduled to end in 2027.
This new order effectively sets aside the recently announced appointments of a new director-general, executive director of news, executive director of marketing, and managing director of NTA Enterprises.
The press release, signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, did not provide further details on the reason for the reversal.
