Prison decongestion: 42 inmates regain freedom, 27 released on bail in Adamawa

In an effort to ensure prison decongestion, the Adamawa state Jail Delivery Committee has pardoned 42 inmates and granted bail to 27 from imprisonment at Yole-pate new Correctional Centre Yola.
The committee led by the state chief judge, Justice Hafsat Abdulrahaman has just commenced a statewide prison visit for decongestion.
Justice Abdulrahaman also simultaneously convicted 2 inmates to 5 years imprisonment for offences bothering on criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Welcoming the committee, in charge of the centre Mr. Musa Gambaki disclosed that Yolda-Pate New Medium Security Custodial Centre is an 800 capacity Centre with presently 865 inmates serving various jail terms.
Gambaki maintained that 673 are awaiting trial out of which 653 are males and 20 females, as well as 11 on a dead row.
The committee is expected return to Yolde-Pate to attend to the rest of the inmate on awaiting trial on Tuesday, 12th September, before proceeding to Yola Correctional Centre for the continuation of the exercise.
