Credit to Nigeria’s private sector increased by N1.13 trillion in August 2026 to N84.55 trillion, according to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data.

The increase represents a 1.35 percent rise from N83.43 trillion recorded in July.

The CBN’s money and credit statistics showed that private-sector credit rose by N8.67 trillion (11.42 percent) from N75.88 trillion in August 2025 to N84.55 trillion in August 2026.

The August increase followed a rise from N81.04 trillion in May to N83.26 trillion in June and N83.43 trillion in July.

The August figure remains below the N94.61 trillion recorded in February 2026.

The CBN data showed that credit to government also fell to N32.7 trillion in August from N33.92 trillion in July.

The figure represents a decline of N1.22 trillion, or 3.60 percent, within the month.

Credit to government had stood at N40.03 trillion in June and N40.38 trillion in May, according to the CBN data, making the August figure N7.34 trillion lower than the June level.

The regulator said total net domestic credit was N117.25 trillion in August, compared with N117.35 trillion in July and N123.29 trillion in June.

The CBN data said net domestic assets increased to N101.99 trillion in August from N101.07 trillion in July.

Money supply, measured by M3, also rose to N139.38 trillion in August from N138.78 trillion in July, while M2 money supply increased to N139.37 trillion from N138.77 trillion during the same period.
