The Progressive Friends Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) of professionals, committed to good governance in Nigeria has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for appointing Suleiman Abba as the Inspector-General of Police.

A press release signed by the coordinator of the group, Mr. Pat I. Oramah said the appointment was a testimony of the President’s efforts to promote professionalism in the management of the security challenges facing Nigeria today.

“We are particularly happy with the promotion of Alhaji Suleiman Abba by President Goodluck Jonathan to replace Mohammed Abubakar after thirty five years of meritorious service to his country as a policeman. We call on the new IGP to not only build on the good works of his predecessor but to introduce new innovations to enhance the protection of lives and property in Nigeria,” the group said in the statement.

Commenting further on the current security situation in the country, the group expressed happiness with the President  for the appointment of other security experts like the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki and the Minister of Defense, Gen Aliyu Gusau.

“We note that despite the insinuations in certain quarters that the President does not like the North West, he has gone ahead to appoint competent professionals from this geo political zone to handle the security of the nation,” the statement said.

It went further to call on all political office holders and opinion leaders to desist from making inflammatory statements that could overheat the system.

On the recent bomb attack on General Buhari, the group said, “We also commend the President for providing adequate security to our dear former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, a fact that ensured that he survived the dastardly bomb attack on him in Kaduna. We sympathise with the families of all those who lost their loved ones in that attack”.
