Katsina State Governor and Chairman of Northwest Governors Forum, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has unveiled the North West Peace and Development Framework before development partners on the sidelines of the ongoing 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The framework, captioned “Seven States, One Ambition,” is a four-year program developed by states in the North West in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to him, the major challenge in North West Nigeria is insecurity.
“Our major challenge in the Northwest is insecurity and we cannot tackle it alone. We have to come together as a region.
“This initiative, supported by the UNDP, is about how we collaborate, share intelligence and bring development to our people,” he told the development partners and investors.
He said, the framework seeks to forge a common front for regional security, attract global partnerships, and create opportunities for young people across the seven states in the region.
North West Nigeria is comprised of Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
All the states, with the exception of Jigawa, are facing intense security challenges from terrorists and bandits that has led to the displacement of millions of citizens caught up in the crisis.
