Rape: Court denies bricklayer bail

An FCT High court has denied bail to a bricklayer, Olando Ibrahim, 25, for alleged rape.

Ibrahim was arraigned on February 5, 2014 a two-court charge bordering on conspiracy and rape.

Justice Slyvanus Oriji, who refused the bail application filed by Counsel to the accused, Ms Joy Ekwueme, said that there would be accelerated hearing of the case.

Oriji adjourned the matter till September 26, and ordered the remand of the accused in Kuje Prison.

Prosecutor Adams Osu had told the court Ibrahim and one Aminu, now at large committed the offence at Katampe Road Mpape, FCT Abuja.

Osu said the accused persons had carnal knowledge with two adults ofsame address without their consent and collected their handbags.

He said that the offence contravened Sections 97 and 283 of the Penal code; which if convicted attract 14 years imprisonment.

The prosecutor further told the court that the accused persons also collected the ladies handset. (NAN)
