Reconciliation: PDP aspirants insist on primaries in Kebbi

Following ongoing nationwide reconciliation effort by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the reconciliation committee headed by the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Toni Anenih, made a brick wall in Kebbi State after PDP guber aspirants insisted on going through the primaries.

Peoples Daily gathered that the meeting which lasted more than four hours yesterday, ended without reaching a consensus as all the aspirants refused to agree with one other.

Speaking with our reporter, one of the political stalwarts in the state who didn’t want his name mentioned, said that all the aspirants failed to agree with the nomination of the state government and also a candidate of President Goodluck Jonathan, stressing that the committee should allow all the

aspirants to go for the party primaries.

‘’I am telling you now that almost seven people have purchased the form and it is not going to be easy this time around for our great party (PDP) to impose a candidate on anybody in Kebbi State. So I am happy we should go for primaries, and you would see who would win and if they rigged then people would defect to another party or they would remain but vote for candidate in another party’’ the source disclosed.

Peoples Daily recalled that Kebbi south senatorial district comprising of Zuru and Yauri emirates were agitating for the governorship seat arguing that they have been marginalized, with Argungu emirate which is in Kebbi North also looking for the same seat while Gwandu emirate which has been ruling the state since its creation is still insisting to contest.

Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting at his farm along Kalgo road, the state party chairman Alhaji Mansiru Shehu confirmed that the party was seeking to reconcile its members, adding that he has also purchased the guber form and he is looking forward to the party primaries.
