Remi Oyo, a role model for women in the media – Aliyu

Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, has described the late Oluremi Oyo as a distinguished media practitioner who is a role model for women in the profession.

Governor Aliyu in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel A. Ebije issued yesterday in Minna, said late Mrs. Oyo who was the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and former Media adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chief Mrs Oluremi will be remembered for her role in repositioning media practice in Nigeria.

Aliyu urged women journalists in Nigeria to emulate her exemplary lifestyle of hardwork, discipline and determination, adding that her attitude to work earned her great heights in her chosen profession.

“Mrs. Oyo competed favorably with her male counterparts and attained very enviable heights both within and outside the newsroom. She was a thoroughbred media icon who  raise the bar of professionalism to enviable heights. She was indeed an accomplished professional.

“For me, her death is a great loss. It is also sad that her demise came just few weeks after another talented media manager and practitioner, Dimgba Igwe was knocked down by a yet to be identified hit-and-run driver Lagos. Her death is a huge loses to the journalism profession”.

The Niger state Governor said Mrs. Oyo left at a time her enormous wealth of experience and professional competence were needed to reposition the media profession to conform with best global media practice.

He further said, Late Mrs. Oyo belonged to the class of patriotic media practitioners who placed national interest far above personal interests. He insisted that she has left an indelible footprint in the practice.

He further called on media practitioners, especially women in the profession to emulate her worthy legacies adding that she has proved beyond reasonable doubts that women can be excellent media managers.
