…Says Bill await Senate concurrence

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Samuel Onuigbo (APC-Abia) yesterday disclosed that a bill for an act for the mainstreaming of climate change action that would give it a legal framework is awaiting concurrence at the Senate.
Recall that the House during it seating on 8th of july passed the bill through third reading.
Hon. Onuigbo, the sponsore of the bill said this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja, adding that the bill would get the President assent after the concurrence
The Lawmaker said that, he was assured that unlike in the 8th senate when the President could not assent due to disagreement, this time it would be assented having ironed out the grey areas.
Onuigbo said that the objective of the bill was to ensure that Nigeria had a legal framework that would help coordinate her efforts at Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.
He said that although the bill was passed by the 8th National Assembly and duly transmitted to President Muhammadu Buhari, but was declined assent due to a number of reasons.
“I am happy that on July 6, during the Committee of the Whole at the House of Representatives, our report was considered and adopted.
He said that the bill was passed by the House and would now be transmitted to the Senate for concurrence.
Onuigbo said that the lawmakers were awareness of the danger of limate change, adding that this motivated him to sponsor the Climate hange Bill in the 8th Assembly.
According to him, the objective was to ensure that Nigeria has a legal framework that will help coordinate her efforts at Climate Change mitigation and adaptation.
He said that as an important arm of Government, it was the duty of the egislators to make laws that would help the executive realise its oals and its promises to the people.
He added that the bill was part of its contribution to aid the resident, and the government to achieve its goal and promise of fighting Climate Change.
