The House of Representatives has called out key government agencies over the continued non-payment of approved pension increments and the withholding of palliatives meant for federal pensioners.
In a motion of urgent national importance moved on the floor of the House, lawmakers condemned the failure to implement the N32,000 pension increase and N25,000 palliative approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in October 2023.
The House expressed concern that pensioners are suffering across the country—unable to afford food, medicine, or basic needs—while funds meant to ease their burden remain stuck in government offices.
The lawmakers warned that ignoring the plight of retirees violates constitutional provisions on social justice and threatens national stability

The House also Called for a full audit of pension payments by the Ministry of Labour, PENCOM, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency;
The House also Recommend setting up a task force to monitor pension disbursements and handle complaints from pensioners;Urge all State Governments to prioritize
It’s Mandate the House Committees on Finance, Pensions, Labour & Employment, Humanitarian Services, and Legislative Compliance to ensure full enforcement.
The motion was adopted unanimously, as lawmakers pledged to hold all defaulting agencies accountable.
