Some of residents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have called on the FCT Water Board to fix damaged water supply pipes, to avoid waste of available water meant for their homes in Abuja.

They argued that its only prompt repair of broken pipes used for channeling water to the end users that would ensure that the water supplied by the board is potable.

Specifically, they expressed concern that the unattended to damaged water pipes are most vulnerable to pollution, due to the fact the refuse carried by floods from the surrounding settlements could pollute the water.

A resident, Emma Ilo, in Jabi, said the development has become serious, as there are cases of huge number of bad water pipes, from where people get the scarce commodity.

 He said it was high time the relevant authorities increased their monitory and surveillance level, to ensure proper maintenance of water facilities in the Territory.

Similarly, one Augustina  Adeleye, in Wuse, who decried the rate at which water pipe supply lines are damaged by people, urged the government to come up punitive measures against such harmful practices.

“Some of these pipes are laid inside gutters, and when they are left open, a lot of harmful particles find their way into them and get mixed up with their content.

“ And innocently, people get the polluted water, and get infected with all forms of diseases in the process; that’s why the board must act now to fix this problem, and stop the spread of

 It would be recalled that the acting director of the board, Michael Adebayo, had repeatedly  assured that the board was always conscious to treat raw water properly, to ensure eradication of contaminants  before supplying residents.
