The House of Tara International, a renowned indigenous make-up firm, at the weekend trained about 180 young women and men in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on how to grow and develop businesses, so as to add value to their families and society at large.
Specifically, they were empowered with skills to help them explore available business opportunities in the cosmetics world, to not only be financially independent but agents for national transformation.
Speaking at the event tagged ‘Tara Beauty Representative Conference’, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of House of Tara International, Mrs. Tara Fela-Durotoye, said, it is a special programme for empowering and developing young people in the society.
She said although some of the participants are already business women, but they needed to take it to another level “because we know that women are very influential, they are influential to their children, and therefore are influential to their society.”
According to her; “I think that the brand has given us a voice as a company, and access to young women; because we now have a platform, and it’s important that we use that platform to the best of our ability.
“First of all there is a degree of leadership that you have to decide to start a business, there is a degree of leadership that you have that is inborn for you to be consistent, identifying these things in these ladies have given me a decision to say that let us take a few of them out and then begin to develop them.”
On her part, the company’s commercial director, Ada Iwugo, said although most of its representatives are based in Lagos, but about 22% of them are actually in Abuja.
On how to sustain the programme, she says “We try and have at least one conference a quarter in different cities, but still we are actually finding out that it is not even enough, so we decided to have three or four of them in a month.
“Prior to the Abuja conference, last week’s Saturday, we had one in Lagos and next week it would be in in Port Harcourt city, and a week after there would be another one in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
“We want to also focus NYSC camps, because we have a lot of young people there, who are not earning a lot of money, and therefore this would open a window opportunity for them to boost their income.
“Also are targeting young ladies and gentlemen in universities, who are looking for means to learn how to ensure that they earn extra income even after leaving school.”
The conference was facilitated by Maybelline New York, brand of Laurel international, one of the biggest cosmetics and Make-up Company in the world.
