Retire Police officers kick against pension deduction

Retired Police officers under the aegis of Elders Club of Nigeria have kicked against deduction of their pensions and non-increment of the monthly stipend.

The former Police officers, who expressed their anger during an interactive session with National Pension Commission(PenCom) held at Kwara State Police Officers Mess on Tuesday noted that 50% of their basic salary were not pay into their various accounts as stipulated in

the Pension reform made available to them.

They noted that many of them whose basic salary were N131,574,N196,000 and above were receive N30,000,N40,000 and N36,000.

The aggrieved retired officers who questioned rational behind the various deduction in their pensions and non-increment in the allowances said other Military forces were better paid monthly while those who retired with Pension old system enjoins increment in their pension.

While briefing Journalists after the interactive meeting with Pencom representative, the Kwara State Chairman of the Club, Alhaji Akinlabi Lasisi lamented ordeal of retired officers stressing that the pensions they are receiving are not enough to cater for their families.

Lasisi said most of the retired officers are living in poor houses, and bad health noting that some of them could not afford to send their children to schools.

Earlier, the representative of Pencom, Mr Olawale Akinyode informed the Police officers that the new pension reform would take care of the some complaints of the officers.

He added that there was need for the retired Officers to familiar themselves with pension reform and update their next of kin data with the National Pension Commission.
