The Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Environment and Waste Management, Dr. Fred Kpakol, has admonished Solid Waste Contractors to support the reinvigorated effort of the FCT Administration towards a clean and environmental friendly nation’s capital worthy of emulation.
He gave this charge yestetday, during an interactive session with the Management of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) and the contractors in Abuja.
Kpakol who noted the present administration of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike are working tirelessly to build a befitting FCT through good environmental sanitation explained that the interactive session was to get first hand information that can hinder the set objectives.
He assured contractors of payment of their outstanding debt for the services they have rendered on solid waste collection and disposal.
He added that more initiatives on good environmental sanitation would be introduced to ensure a clean city centre in line with the best international standard.
Axcording to the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant, said he principal has been given a matching order to ensure an environmental friendly municipality announced that efforts would also be made to extend same to the satellite towns.
Earlier in his welcome remark, the AEPB Director, Mr. Osilama Braimah commended the Senior Special Assistant for the interaction session, which it would go a long way to boost the performance of the Board on environmental sanitation.
Braimah also called for the continuous support of the Solid Waste Contractors in making the city centre free of liquid and solid waste.
However, speaking on behalf of the Contractors, the Chairman, FCT Solid Waste Contractors, Mr. Ibrahim Babayo identified non payment for their outstanding services as one of the challenges hindering waste management within the city centre of the FCT.
He also appealed to the FCTA to look into the payment to enable them settle their bank loans and outstanding salaries of their workers.
