Scammers dupe UTME students of N1.5m in Delta

Difficulties times have hit prospective students for 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in Ogwashi-Uku, Asaba and Ozoro communities in Delta State, leaving scammers to make and have allegedly ripped-off unsuspecting students of N1.5million.
While the students who spoke to our reporter have lamented the difficult times, they have appealed to the examination body to extend the deadline for payment to enable them meet the requirements.
It was gathered that scammers positioned around UTME offices as unsuspecting agents, and in desperation to make money allegedly hoodwink the students into assisting them in the registration; a process the students part away with N5, 000 each in most cases.
Rita Osegboh, a prospective UTME student told our reporter, “I was willing to get registered when one of the agents approached me to give him N5, 000 and I gave, only for him to disappear into the thin air”.
But the Police Image Maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka in a swift reaction, said the police were on the trait of the suspects, adding that six persons who claimed to be UTME officials, but were not upon investigation, were lasted Monday arrested, and are currently being interrogated.
Another student, Ifeoma Ezewanta who also spoke on the issue, lamented that the problem was compounded by the management of the Joint Admissions, and Matriculation Board (JAMB), saying that they should have allowed the old system herein any person can register at any CBT Center, but pay the registration fee into account.
