To further entrench her investor education campaigns, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has concluded arrangements to hold its 5th National Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools in the Federation from November 10, 2014.

The annual competition for Secondary School students, tagged: ” Catch ‘em Young’’ was initiated as one of the SEC NIGERIA strategies for imparting knowledge and understanding of the capital market in young Nigerians – an approach to ensuring that a culture of saving and investing in the Capital Market takes root in young Nigerians.

The competition is structured to hold at three levels namely, state, zonal and national Levels.

At the state level; six schools from each state will compete to produce a winning school that will represent it at the zonal level. This level holds from 10th – 12th November, 2014.

The zonal level competition is the second elimination stage where the winning schools from each state will slug it out to come up with a winner to represent the state at the national level. This stage is slated for 14th November, 2014.

The final stage is the national level which is the grand finale of the competition where the overall winner will be determined from the six geo-political zones of the country. The grand finale will come up on 26th November, 2014 in FCT.

The competition is expected to start at 11:00 am – 12:30 pm each day at the state level and 9:30 am – 11:00 am at the zonal levels.

Valuable prizes will be given to the winning schools, students and teachers at all levels of the competition.

The SEC NIGERIA as the apex regulator of the Nigerian capital Market performs the dual roles of market regulation and development and had in 2004 infused Capital Market studies into six subjects of the Senior Secondary school.

Also, the Commission is sponsoring Capital Market studies in some Nigerian Universities. These includes, ABU and University of Lagos.
