The Senate has confirmed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN).
This was even when the new CJN revealed her intention to be hard on those who discuss Court pending matters in the Media.
Justice Kekere- Ekun’s confirmation comes after hours of screening by Nigerian senators yesterday.
Peoples Daily reports that with the confirmation, Kekere-Ekun becomes the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria and the second woman to hold that office after Justice Alooma Mukhtar.
The new head of the nation’s judiciary stated during her screening that should would sanitize Nigeria’s judiciary.
As part of the sanitization, she hinted, she would apply the against those who engage in subjudice by discussing matters pending before the Court.
She said there was a clear law against such acts, but that the law had been applied in breach, promising that it would no longer be business as usual.
It would be recalled that last month, President Bola Tinubu swore in Kekere-Ekun as the second female CJN in an acting capacity.
