Senate President decries high level of criminality in Nigeria

Senate President Sen. David Mark has decried the high level of criminality in the country especially in Benue state, maintaining that if criminals are not prosecuted, there would be lawlessness in the society.

Sen. Mark made this lamentation yesterday in Makurdi, Benue State capital while commissioning the new state-of-the art Faculty of Law at the Benue State University, BSU, built by Governor Gabriel Suswam.

He noted that many criminals are walking the streets free without been punished for the evil act they commit, challenging security operatives to live up to their expectation, by ensuring that criminals are not only apprehended but duly prosecuted by the law.

The Senate President also frowned at the manner politicians in the State malign each other instead of tackling real issues, adding too that there is unnecessary distraction by petition writers which is affecting governance in the State negatively.

“Let us do those things that are pleasing to God and avoid maligning each other. We should give maximum support to the governor to succeed. I want to commend him for building on the legacy of late Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu, who started the university by construction this edifice, which will make for conducive learning for our future lawyers”, he said.

Governor Gabriel Suswam said leaders of the state who nursed the establishment of the university predicated it on rule of law, which motivated him to embark on the construction of the project.

He added that the impressive performance of law graduates of the university at the Law School, Lagos as well as non-accreditation of some of the courses of the faculty were worrying issues that led to the birth of the new structure.
