Senate will today receive the report of its Committee on Interior, which had probed the immediate and remote circumstances which led to the killing of 17 applicants for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) jobs at the various recruitment centres in the country.
Following the recruitment tragedy and the motion to that effect, which was raised by the Chairman of Senate Committee on Interior, Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, the Senate mandated the committee to probe the incident, with a view to unravel what happened.
To this end, the Committee summoned the key players in the tragedy, including the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), David Parradang.
Others summoned by the Senate Committee wee the Deputy Comptrollers of the various states where the stampede happened, the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration, Customs and Prisons Board (CDFICPB).
It could be recalled that in his ruling after debate on the motion that day, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over plenary, ruled that the committee should invite the key players with a view to unravel what happened so as to prevent future occurrence.
He also mandated committee to submit its report in one week time, after it has conducted a public hearing on the incident, which has exhausted.
