Except for last minute changes, the Senate will today conclude screening and confirm forty eight (48) ministerial nominees submitted to it by President Ahmed Bola Tínubu after one week grilling and ‘bow and go’ exercise on the floor of the red chamber.

It is also expected that the senate will compose and announce chairmen, vice  chairmen and membership of its entire standing Committees before proceeding on a long recess today.

Recall that Tinubu had penultimate Thursday forwarded names of 28 ministerial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The President added list of 19 others on Wednesday last week and Festus Keyamo two days after, totalling 48 nominees altogether.

In giving the presidential request expeditious consideration, the Senate from Monday to Saturday last week, carried out the screening exercise in which 46 out of the 48 nominees appeared before it at different times.

The two remaining nominees whose nomination could not be considered by the Senate on Saturday via screening due to yet to be completed documentation, as announced by the Senate President , Godswill Akpabio, will be screened today.

The affected two nominees are Festus Keyamo (SAN) from Delta State and Dr Mariya Mahmoud Bunkutre from Kano State.

Bunkutre was on Saturday morning in a correspondence to the Senate,  announced as replacement for Maryam Shetty by President Bola Tinubu.

After the screening of the remaining two nominees, Senate will most likely confirm appointments of the entire 48 nominees as Ministers and return same to the President.

The Senate President may also announce names of Chairmen and Vice Chairmen of the entire standing committees of the Senate.

Senate had on Saturday amended its standing rules to accommodate more committees composition, apparently in preparation for the announcement of the standing committees of the 10th Assembly today.
