‘Senator Gumba still in the Bauchi state guber race’

Date:

From Ahmed Kaigama, Bauchi

Governorship aspirant, Senator Adamu Gumba, currently representing Bauchi South at the National Assembly, has insisted that he is still in the race despite the pronouncement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it has zoned the governorship seat to Bauchi North and Bauchi Central.

It would be recalled that the state Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Yaro Yaro, stated in a statement recently that the elders advisory committee of the party at the end of their meeting, zoned out Bauchi South from the race.

Addressing press conference at NUJ secretariat Bauchi yesterday, the representative of Adamu Gumba Campaign Organization, who is also the former Deputy National Financial Secretary of PDP, Yakubu Ibrahim, said senator Gumba has not been given any automatic ticket to contest senatorial election but still in the race of governorship election in the state.

He said “we are here to clear the rumour that senator Gumba has been given automatic ticket to continue as a Senator, the statement is false because senator Gumba representing Bauchi South, is very much in the race of governorship election come 2015.

“To this moment, we have not receive any report that the governorship race has been zoned out so we are still very much in the race”, the campaign group said.

When asked if there is any pact signed by senator Gumba and Governor Isa Yugda, that Gumba will only serve as a senator for one term, Ibrahim said “I don’t know of any pact because that is not why we are here today, we are here to let the people know that Adamu Gumba is still in the race.

“I want to call on all delegate that will decide who will be the flag bearer during the primary election of PDP to nominate the right person, which is senator Adamu  Ibrahim Gumba,” he said.

He described Gumba as detribalised citizen, saying “senator Gumba is a man of the people that carries everybody along irrespective of religion and ethnic differences”.
