Senegalese President, Mr. Bassirou Diomaye Faye has been elected as new Chairman of Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government.
Faye emerged as the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), succeeding Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio.
It was reported that Faye was elected during the regional high-level meeting of West African leaders.
However, Biram Diop has been appointed as the new president of the ECOWAS Commission, replacing Dr. Omar Tauray.
The summit, attended by leaders from across the region, is expected to focus on strengthening regional integration, enhancing cooperation, and promoting solidarity among the peoples of West Africa.
Also, the emergence of Faye was confirmed by the spokesperson of Nigeria’s Foreign Ministry, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa in Abuja Sunday.
