The Service Compact with all Nigerians (SERVICOM) has appreciated the media for their  unbiased reportage and excellent partnership with the institution to promote quality service delivery to Nigerians through the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, the National Coordinator SERVICOM, who gave the commendation at “End of Year Media Parley” on Thursday in Abuja, said SERVICOM had recognised the important roles media in Nigeria had played on the service delivery initiatives of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“Dear colleagues and gentlemen of the press, it is with great delight that I welcome you to this media parley. Your presence here underscores the importance you place on the Service Delivery Initiative of the Federal Government.

“In line with SERVICOM’s method of raising and praising individual service provider or organisation through SERVICOM Nodal Officers’ Awards,  we have been preaching to MDAs, to reward and celebrate those who give delightsome service experience to citizens.

“The SERVICOM Office started awarding and celebrating Nodal Officers and MDAs that met and exceeded citizens’ expectations in 2007 and we have since then made efforts to institutionalize awards/reward system in MDAs. “

According to Akajemeli, the initiative is to encourage healthy competition in MDAs and to also  entrench efficiency in MDAs.

“We preach it, so we lead by example. “

She said the deserving Nodal Officers/MDAs were selected using a check list to assess the activities these MDAs carried out in the cause of the year in line with SERVICOM Principles and their work plan.

“The media as the fourth estate of the realm is not left out in our “thank you’” message, awards and celebrations. So we are pausing to have a session with you and say a big thank you for your immense support to nation-building by making service delivery a subject of national discourse.

“It is because of you that we not only have SERVICOM in MDAs, but also in homes of Nigerian citizens and have informed and educated them on their right to demand for satisfactory services from MDAs.

“Your unbiased reportage has helped to shape citizens’ opinions and challenged them to understand they deserve better services from their Government through the MDAs.

“You have also used your reportage and platforms to hold government agencies accountable to the citizen while at the same time mirroring to the citizens their roles in the business of service delivery. “

At the event, Mr David Adejo Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs, Office of Secretary to the Government of the Federation, appreciated the SERVICOM’s National Coordinator for her consistency to recognise and award those who performed well in the tasks assigned to them in various MDAs.

“The idea of the award exercise is to reiterate and to remind us that we are all working, but some people are working harder than the others.
