Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state yesterday charged the newly appointed Caretaker Chairmen for the 27 local government areas to be conscious of security situation in their respective localities.

Governor Shettima also tasked the chairmen to ensure good governance by embarking on people oriented projects to their people and build confidence in the minds of the rural populace.

Shettima dropped the hint while swearing in, the new chairmen, saying there was need for them to support security operatives deployed to their areas for counter-insurgency operations.

The governor further implored the chairmen to be upright and prudent in the management of the local government funds in the course of their responsibilities.

He urged the appointees to strive hard and deliver dividends of democracy to their people, noting that their appointments were based on merit.

He also appealed to them to be courteous and accommodative to their people especially those that were affected by the insurgency.

Shettima reminded the chairmen that government expects them to exhibit high level performance despite the security challenges in their localities.

While imploring the officials to be committed and dedicated to their duties, the governor enjoined them to carry everybody along, regardless of ethnic, religious or political affiliations.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council, AbdulKadir Rahis assured the governor of their dedication to discharge their responsibilities with fairness.

He also said the chairmen will work diligently towards promoting peace in the state and providing dividends of demoracy to their rural people as part of the government’s rural transformation program.
