Following the House of Representatives’ decision to reopen submissions for state creation proposals, the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) pushed for the creation of Gurara state, out of the present Kaduna State.
SOKAPU members said they are now working to refine the proposal to meet constitutional requirements, as the window provided by the House Committee on Constitution Review, was opened.
SOKAPU has, therefore, set up a high-powered committee led by Barrister Mark Jacob to engage with key stakeholders at the state and national levels.,towards achieving ts goal.
The SOKAPU President, Solomon Tabai, said at a press conference that the committee has secured endorsements from lawmakers and other influential figures.
He said it was not true that Governor Uba Sani was against the creation of Gurara state.
“The notion that the governor is not in support of Gurara State is misleading. Available facts indicate otherwise. We urge our people to remain united and not allow misinformation to create division,” he said.
The proposed Gurara State would be made up of 12 Local Government Areas, with a landmass larger than several existing states, he said.
“Gurara would be rich in agricultural and mineral resources, reinforcing its viability as a stand-alone entity,” he added.
