Sokoto ADC suffers major blow as ex-commissioner, hundreds defect to APC in 3 LGAs

The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has suffered a significant political setback following the mass defection of hundreds of its members including key political heavyweights from Gudu, Binji, and Tangaza Local Government Areas to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a statement released in Sokoto by Malam Bashar Abubakar, Senior Special Assistant to Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the high-profile defectors were led by the immediate past Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Hon. Musa Ausa Gidan Madi.
Other notable figures who dumped the ADC alongside hundreds of their supporters include: Hon. Faruk Mustapha Balle Sarkin Arewa, Alhaji Attahiru Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni, and Umaru Zuzu.
The defectors were formally received into the progressive fold by the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Hon. Haruna S. Gobir Adiya, during the official flag-off ceremony for the Gidan Madi–Binji–Gande road project in Tangaza Local Government Area.
The event was attended by top government officials and party leaders, headlined by the Governor of Sokoto State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, and the APC State Leader, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Welcoming the new members, Sen. Wamakko described the mass movement as a resounding vote of confidence in Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s people-centered governance and a direct reflection of the administration’s aggressive infrastructure drive across the state.
He encouraged the Governor to maintain his inclusive leadership style, expressing optimism that the APC’s track record would continue to draw opposition members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his address, Governor Ahmed Aliyu congratulated the defectors on joining the APC and assured them of equal rights, opportunities, and fair treatment within the party structure.
He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more democracy dividends, emphasizing that his administration remains dedicated to justifying the trust of the Sokoto electorate.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors: Hon. Faruk Mustapha Balle & Hon. Musa Ausa Gidan Madi (Gudu & Tangaza) Alhaji Attahiru Salihu Bashar Kalanjeni (Tangaza) Alhaji Sayyadi Nuhu Binji and Alhaji Sani Ahmad (Binji) cited landmark infrastructure projects specifically pointing to the Wamakko–Bunkari and Gidan Madi–Binji–Gande road developments alongside the guidance of Sen. Wamakko as the primary drivers of their decision.
The group pledged total loyalty to the APC and vowed to mobilize massive grassroots support to guarantee the party’s victory in 2027.
