Sokoto Commences Artificial Insemination Awareness Campaign

The Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project in Sokoto State, in collaboration with the Muryar Fulani Peace Initiatives Network, has commenced an awareness campaign on Artificial Insemination (AI) as a modern livestock breeding technology across the state.
The awareness campaign, which is being conducted in three zones—Sokoto Central, Sokoto East, and Sokoto South—is aimed at sensitizing livestock farmers and other stakeholders on the ongoing Artificial Insemination programme.
The initiative seeks to increase awareness and significantly expand the number of beneficiaries accepting the AI programme.
At the end of the campaign, participants are expected to return to their respective zones to conduct community sensitization for the Artificial Insemination programme.
In his opening remarks, the State Project Coordinator of L-PRES Sokoto, Sirajo Abubakar, represented by the Animal Husbandry Officer, Kabiru Yusuf Muhammad, said they remain committed to promoting the adoption of Artificial Insemination as a modern livestock breeding technology across the state.
He explained that, as part of this commitment, L-PRES has constructed a modern Artificial Insemination Centre at Runjin Sambo to improve livestock productivity and support livestock farmers in the state. He therefore urged livestock farmers and the general public to take advantage of the facility by accessing the AI services for improved livestock production.
The State Project Coordinator also encouraged participants to pay close attention throughout the awareness so they could effectively transfer the knowledge acquired to livestock farmers and members of their communities.
Delivering the lead presentation, Dr. Asma’u Muhammad Bashar of the Muryar Fulani Peace Initiatives Network described the Artificial Insemination initiative as a significant step towards modernizing livestock production in Sokoto State.
She commended the Sokoto State Government and the L-PRES Project for their foresight and commitment to promoting livestock development through modern technologies, noting that the initiative would greatly enhance livestock productivity, commercialization and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
