Sokoto gov’t to probe building collapse, urges compliance with building approvals

The Sokoto State Ministry of Lands, Housing, Survey and Town Planning has paid a sympathy visit to the site of the collapsed building located along Bauchi Road, Sokoto.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Sokoto by the spokesperson of the Ministry, Mukhtar Dodo Iya.
The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Town Planning, Barr. Nasir Aliyu Dantsoho, expressed sympathy to the owner of the ill-fated plaza over the unfortunate incident and prayed for strength and better days ahead.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Ahmad Moyi Tambuwal, the Commissioner urged residents of Sokoto State to always obtain the necessary building approvals from the Ministry and other relevant government agencies before commencing any construction project.
He emphasized that securing the required permits is essential to ensure compliance with building regulations and to safeguard lives and property.
The Commissioner further disclosed that the Ministry would set up a committee to investigate the cause of the building collapse and determine appropriate measures to prevent a recurrence.
He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to enforcing building laws and ensuring the safety of structures across the state.
It could be recalled that the building collapsed on Wednesday afternoon, although no death was recorded while nobody was injured as a result of the obnoxious incident.
