The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and relinquished his position as council chairman.
The twin decisions were conveyed in separate resignation letters made available to journalists.
In a letter dated May 5, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward, the former chairman announced his immediate resignation from the party, describing the move as a personal decision.
A second letter, dated July 7, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government as well as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed his immediate resignation as Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area.
Kalanjeni explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with his family, political associates and community leaders.
He also cited persistent administrative challenges, saying they had made it impossible for him to continue discharging the responsibilities of his office to the standard expected.
The former council chairman thanked the people of Tangaza, members of the local government legislature and council staff for the opportunity to serve, while wishing his successor a successful tenure.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Sokoto State Government nor the APC had issued an official reaction to his resignation from the party and his office.
