Sokoto: Taskforce warns politicians against indiscriminate billboards, posters

Sokoto state Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation, Beatification and Removal of Illegal Structures, has warned political class in the state to desist from erecting political billboards and posters without permission from authorities.

The Chairman of the Taskforce, Squadron Leader Aminu Bala Sokoto, gave the charge in an interview with Journalists in Sokoto.

He noted that such indiscriminate act was not in conformity with environmental and sanitation practice being promoted by the Taskforce in the state.

His words: “we are aware of the indiscriminate erection of campaign billboards all over the Sokoto metropolis. We have taken cautious steps in that regard and without bias. We appealed to the political class to desist from indulging in pasting campaign posters indiscriminately.”

He said the determination of the Task Force towards ensuring strict compliance with the environmental laws and order would not be jeopardise by the political activities in the state.

Bala also reiterated the state government’s commitment to improve the hygienic condition of its citizenry.

He added that this informed the set aside of last Saturday of every month as environmental sanitation day, during which movement is restricted from 7:00am to 10:00am.

The chairman noted that all defaulters in the previous exercises were arrested and prosecuted through a mobile sanitation court presided over by a magistrate.
