Honourable Nkechi Ogbuefi Anyanwu, the lawmaker representing Anaocha One State Constituency in the 8th legislature of Anambra State and the only female lawmaker amongst the 30 members of the state assembly, has explained her mission to the House of Assembly. She also described some Anambra state constituencies as third world constituencies.

The lawmaker, who is representing the constituency of the Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general elections, Peter Obi, told our correspondent in an exclusive interview at the state assembly complex Awka, that she was in the 8th legislature to attract projects to Anaocha One and not to get involved in anything that would be counter productive.

Ogbuefi told our correspondent that her people deserved optimal representation in the comity of constituencies, adding that why she came in was to increase the standard of governance in Anaocha One State Constituency.

Ogbuefi, who is the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Women Affairs and Social Welfare and Deputy Chairman Committee on Power and Water Resources, noted that Anaocha One has been a self-sustaining constituency in the sense that the constituency built her roads and other infrastructures but expressed hope that going forward more government presence would be felt in the constituency.

She was cognisant of the fact that the state government can not do everything alone. This according to her was the remote reason she propagated the “Aku Luo Uno” think home philosophy where she encouraged Ndi-Anambra far and wide to bring home their wealth and invest in their home state to better the lives of the people.

The lawmaker, who described some state constituencies as third world constituencies, emphasized the urgent need for sustainable development in such constituencies; pointing out that Anaocha One is exempted from such underdevelopment because she said Peter Obi did quite a lot in the area of road infrastructure.

She said another very critical necessity in Anaocha One Constituency is water. The lawmaker maintained that water resources should be accorded expedient action in the building of borehole facilities even as she said that Anaocha also needs agricultural revolution.

Ogbuefi said, “What I am here to address is to bring to the fore the challenges of my people in Anaocha One Constituency by being a voice for them to the government; making sure that when the economic planning of this state is being done, Anaocha One Constituency is given its pride of place.”
