Operatives of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) have apprehended and evacuated substandard and life-endangering liquefied petroleum gas cylinders on sale in Katsina State following classified information provided by the Department of State Services (DSS) in the State.
Speaking on the seizure, the SON State Coordinator, Mohammed Jibril expressed gratitude to the DSS office in Katsina as well as the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps for their support in successfully carrying out the operation.
According to him, the suspected substandard cylinders were allegedly repainted and re-marked for sale to unsuspecting consumers while the dealers could not provide necessary documentation for the consignments.
Jibril alluded to the classification of LPG Cylinders as life-endangering products and warned consumers in Katsina State to be wary of patronizing substandard cylinders given the potentials for leakage and explosion.
He also admonished dealers in the products to ensure that they stock only certified LPG Cylinders, stressing that SON will comb the nooks and crannies of the State to apprehend dealers in substandard cylinders and other life-endangering products.
