State assembly rerun: We’ve made adequate arrangements for seamless election – Kano Police

Kano state Police Command has assured seamless election, following the February 3 rerun election for state house of assembly in three constituencies in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had fixed February 3rd for the conduct of court-ordered re-run elections for state house of assembly in three constituencies in Kano state.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in the state, Ambassador Abdu Zango recently disclosed that the Commission had concluded all the necessary arrangements for the conduct of the re-run elections in three constituencies across six Local Government areas of the state.
The constituencies include Kunchi-Tsanyawa, Kura -Garun Malam, and Rimin Gado -tofa.
Speaking at a meeting with the INEC REC at the Command’s headquarters on Wednesday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel said they had kicked started security arrangements ahead of the poll.
He said any security agency that is not under Federal Government should not participate in the re-run elections.
According to him, the Command is ready to put adequate security in place in order to ensure seamless exercise.
He urged the residents of the state to give maximum cooperation to the Command in order to hold a peaceful election.
“We have started preparing security arrangements for the rerun in six LGAs and three constituencies.
“No vigilante and all other security agencies that are not under Federal Government would participate in the election.
“We are ready and good to go. We assure Kano residents that we have the power to provide adequate security to ensure seamless election.
“INEC has provided all logistics and other plans for the rerun.
“We urge you to give maximum cooperation to ensure free and peaceful election,” he said
Mr Gumel warned that EFCC and ICPC would be on patrol at the election venues against vote buying.
According to him, whoever is caught engaging in vote buying and other election malpractice would face the wrath of the law.
Earlier in a remark, the REC assured that the Commission would hold free, fair and credible poll.
He said virtually all necessary arrangements had been put in place, including deployment of non sensitive materials, adding that sensitive ones would be deployed a day to the election.
