IDPs seek protection against Wukari LG boss

From Godwin Agia, Jalingo

The returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Wukari Local Government Area, the home of the Executive Governor of Taraba State Dr Agbu Kefas, have cried out to the State and Federal Government to come to their and save their lives in the hands of Samaila Dauda, Chairman, Wukari Local Government Area.
The IDPs who looked helpless while addressing our correspondent said, Hon Samaila Dauda on Tuesday, 23rd January 2024, visited one of the settlements of the IDPs where he asked them to vacate the areas or take whatsoever they see.
Mr Joseph Chihiber who addressed the group of IDPs made of pregnant women, children, oldmen and young men and girls narrated that since their return in the area, they have been receiving serious threats by the Chairman.
“He first sent his Security Adviser who insisted we must vacate this place, but we pleaded with him that the crisis is over and we are no longer comfortable with taking refuge in strange lands for over four year.
“Today again, he came himself and insisted that we must start returning to our IDP Camps before he leaves. When we sort to know why we must leave, he said there are several procedures we must follow before we can resettle in our ancestral homes again.
“This is what we don’t understand. We have our fore fathers buried here, we have our economic trees all over here, even though destroyed during the crisis, we have been here for ages. Our fore fathers did not show us that we have another place to call our own apart from this one. We are seriously appealing to the State and Federal Government to act fast, else our boss may clear us, we are afraid”.
