Swift Telephone Network Ltd. (STN) has secured a Unified Access Service Licence (UASL) from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), paving the way for the company to provide voice, data and other telecommunications services across Nigeria.
The Chief Executive Officer of STN, Oluwole Adetuyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, describing the development as a major milestone in the company’s evolution into an independent telecommunications operator.
Adetuyi said the licence marked STN’s transition from a telephone call service operating under an umbrella structure to a full-service telecommunications company.
He described the development as a new chapter in the company’s journey, reflecting its resilience and ambition to contribute to the development of Nigeria’s telecommunications infrastructure.
“This UASL is not just a licence. It is a new chapter.
“The licence represents the company’s journey, resilience and plans to develop telecommunications infrastructure in Nigeria. We are building in Nigeria for Nigeria,” he said.
The STN chief executive said the company had navigated changing economic conditions, regulatory developments and market challenges to position itself as a full-service telecommunications operator.
He said the company would focus on building a Nigerian telecommunications ecosystem through skills development, strategic partnerships and investment in infrastructure.
According to him, STN plans to train Nigerian engineers, technicians and digital professionals to strengthen indigenous technical capacity and develop local expertise in the telecommunications sector.
Adetuyi said the company would also prioritise partnerships with Nigerian service providers, contractors and vendors across the telecommunications value chain.
He added that collaborations with global technology partners would help deepen local technical capabilities and support the development of telecommunications infrastructure.
The CEO said STN also planned to expand its infrastructure to improve telecommunications access and help bridge Nigeria’s digital divide.
He said the expansion would create employment opportunities and support Nigerian entrepreneurs operating in distribution, retail and other support services.
“Our ambition is simple: to help build Nigeria’s digital economy from the ground up.
“The licence provides STN with a platform to pursue its plans, while Nigerian talent, partnerships and innovation will drive its growth,” Adetuyi said.
The company said it would announce strategic partnerships, infrastructure rollout plans and stakeholder engagement programmes in the coming weeks.
The Unified Access Service Licence authorises its holder to provide a range of telecommunications services, including fixed, mobile, voice and data services across Nigeria.
