Strike: Sheath your swords, BUK old students appeal to FG, ASUU

Class of 1989 Alumni Forum of Bayero University Kano (BUK) have appealed to Federal Government of Nigeria and Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to amicably resolve their differences in to end the lingering strike.
The Chairman of the forum, Kabir Jinjiri Rngim made the appeal at a congratulatory visit to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Sagir Adamu yesterday.
Ringim stated that the two warring parties should consider the hardship inflicted on the students by the protracted strike action and come up with amicable solution in order to save the future of the young Nigerians.
According to him, the closure of Nigerian universities for about nine months is a source of worry to every discerning individual, calling on the Federal Government and ASUU to heed to the pleas and advises of Nigerians to end the lingering industrial action in order to save the future of education in the country.
The forum also presented the cheaque of N500,000 to the VC of BUK as its contribution to scholarship funding to indigent students who could not afford their school fees.
Ringim however stated that the forum, which started its end-of-year activities in 2019 had engaged in several philanthropic activities worth over N400,000.
According to him, some of the humanitarian gestures provided by the forum include donation of palliative items to Dutse Correctional Center and charity home in Jigawa State and Katsina State respectively.
Others include donation of palliative items to Bauchi state correctional home, donation of N100,000 to indigent patients at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna state and donation of palliative items, worth N160,000 to families of late classmates in Kano state.
In his remarks, the VC, represented by the BUK’s librarian, Dr Musa Audi Auyo commended the forum for the visit and gestures being distributed to the needy.
He called on other alumni of the university to emulate the 1989 alumni in order to strengthen unity and peace among the students and the society as a whole.
