Sultan asks leaders to fear God

Date:

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday urged leaders in the country to rule with absolute fear of God.

“Nigerians need the support of their leaders now more than ever before, as they are facing a myriad of problems,” the Sultan said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar gave the task in Sokoto when he received the new Emir of Gombe, in Gombe State, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu.

The Sultan reminded the emir that “we (leaders) will be answerable to God if we fail to provide the needed credible leadership.

“We should continue to live and lead in accordance with Islamic injunctions”.

Besides, Abubakar advised leaders to uphold justice and fairness on all issues.

He said that the Sokoto Caliphate was founded based on the principles of justice, equity and provision of social services to the people.

The Sultan advised the Emir to follow the footsteps of his late father whom, he described as pious, fearless, patriotic and courageous.

Shehu had earlier told the Sultan that they were in his palace to pay homage and seek for the blessings.

The Emir extolled the existing cordial relationship between the Sultanate council of Sokoto and the Gombe Emirate Council.

He also commended the Sultan for his sustained efforts to unite the Muslim Ummah and Nigerians generally.
