Sultan Cautions District Heads Against Partisan Politics
The Sultan of Sokoto, Dr Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has cautioned district heads and other traditional leaders against involvement in partisan politics.
He said that they must remain neutral and treat all political actors equally.
The Sultan, who gave the warning when he addressed district heads under the Sultanate Council, said they should focus on their roles of promoting peace, security, and social development at the grassroots.
Sultan Abubakar also called on them to remain security-conscious within their domains and to promptly alert relevant authorities on any developments that could threaten peace and stability.
During the engagement, the Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board, Usman Jatau, briefed the District Heads on the board’s efforts in tackling social challenges, including extravagant weddings and all forms of immorality.
He called for more support from the traditional rulers in the board’s efforts to ensure a decent society.
Also, the Director, National Population Commission, Sokoto State Office, Sani Ladan Dogondaji, alongside UNICEF representatives, utilised the forum to sensitise the district heads on the importance of birth and death registration.
They highlighted the role of accurate vital registration in strengthening planning, access to social services, legal identity, and evidence-based development.
