Super Eagles Would Have Suffered Embarrassment In Qatar World Cup – Siasia

Ex Super Eagles Coach, Samson Siasia has stated that Nigeria’s Super Eagles 2ouodbhave suffered humiliation had they participated in the just concluded 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina no Sunday beat France 4-2 on penalties to win their 3rd World Cup diadem after regulation and extra time had ended 3-3 apiece.

Although Nigeria failed to qualify for the tournament – the second time they are missing out since they debuted in 1994 – the 2008 Olympic silver winning coach noted that they would have exited the World Cup from the group stage.

The Bayelsa born coach made this known to journalist at a football event in Lagos.

Recall that the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the global soccer fiesta after losing to perennial rivals, Black Stars of Ghana in the playoffs.

Super Eagles had played a 0-0 draw in Kumasi but played out a 1-1 draw in Abuja to miss making it to the Mundial on away goal rule.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco made history at the competition by becoming the first African team to reach the semi-finals.

Current African champions, Teranga Lions of Senegal made it to the second round.

Cameroon and Tunisia although failed to progress beyond the group stage, recorded victories against former champions, Brazil and France.

Siasia dismissed talks the Super Eagles would have done well if they had qualified for the mundial.

“We would have been embarrassed out of the World Cup with shocking scorelines,” Siasia told Football Live.

“The Super Eagles have no business going to the World Cup and losing out to the Ghana team we played against is enough proof.”

The Super Eagles had made it to the second round on three occasions at the World Cup in  1994, 1998, and 2014.
