Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), has said, Nigerians must support the fight against corruption and corrupt practices in every aspect of the nation’s democracy and governance.
The Chairman Advisory Board of the Foundation, Justice Mamman Nasir made the appeal while addressing a press conference on behalf of the Foundation in Kaduna, yesterday.
He advised Nigerians to see the need for a corruption-free nation as sacrosanct and be guided by such in their voting decision.
Justice Mamman Nasir who was former Justice of the Appeal Court also asked Nigerians not to partake in the abuse of the electoral processes nor give in to the temptations of vote buying to subvert Nigeria’s collective will for good governance.
Justice Nasir who addressed the press alongside the Managing Director of the foundation, Dr. Shettima Aji Ali also urged Nigerians to vote in peace and avoid anything that can plunge the country into violence.
“The Foundation appeals to all Nigerians to take the coming election as a process of developing our democracy and socioeconomic wellbeing and not as a do or die affair for personal or sectional gains.
Consequently, the Foundation appeals to all electorates to come out en-mass and vote for their candidates of choice peacefully and vote in the spirit of free and fair sportsmanship, putting the future of the country first in making their choices.
“The Foundation cautions on the slide to dirty politicking fuelled and spread by all manner of communication modes, and especially hate speeches widely spread through the social media despite its criminalisation. The Foundation appeals to all politicians to help strengthen our democracy by focussing on issues that would cement our oneness and consolidate our development, including security of lives and property.
“The Foundation also calls on every Nigerian to see the need for a corruption-free Nigeria as sacrosanct. Therefore, we must all support the fight against corruption and corrupt practices in every aspect of our democracy and governance and indeed our lives. In particular, we must not partake in the abuse of the electoral processes nor give in to the temptations of vote buying to subvert our collective will for good governance. “
