In a bid to safeguard marine activities, the Office Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) in collaboration with the National Hydrographic Agency (NHA) may have concluded plans to advance the hydrography in the country especially in the area of staffing.
In a statement released in Abuja Tuesday, signed by the Head, Information and Public Relations, Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF), Mr. Henry David, it noted that the Surveyor General of the Federation Surv. Abudulganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin received the Hydrographer of the Federation and boss of National Hydrographic Agency (NHA), Rear Admiral Ayo Olugbode, with their discussion bordering on advancing the hydrography in the country especially in the area of staffing.
The statement informed that NHA contributes in helping Nigeria fulfil her commitment to international treaties, conventions, protocols and plays a vital role in safeguarding national maritime interests while ensuring compliance with International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards.
In his remarks, Surv Adebomehin said, “This is a new frontier for the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) in which the Navy represents the military while OSGoF will stand for the civilians at the National Hydrographic Agency and competent hand will be sent from my office to NHA to represent our office”
“Surveyor General said that office will grow from strength to strength. And being the pioneer, Almighty God will not make it down and we shall grow from strength to strength”.
Speaking earlier, Hydrographer of the Federation said it was homecoming for him being a surveyor and visiting the Surveyor General of the Federation.
According him, “It is a great privilege to be here, you not only given me inspiration, but also guidance, wisdom, and institutional memory of how things should be done. We will not stay away from you.
“As time goes on, those of you who are even part of his staff and executive team, you will be finding me here more often, it’s not rhetoric. I will be coming here very frequently. As Hydrographer of the Federation, we are joined at the hip.”
“His responsibility is terrestrial, mine is maritime. I’m privileged to be appointed by the president to be governor of the ocean, the responsibility of 84,000 square nautical miles is what is on me. One-third of the land, Nigeria is 923 square kilometers, It Is a huge responsibility, It’s a responsibility that is a shared burden between us” he said.
