A retiree of the Delta State Judiciary, Mr Anthony Ikpeteshi, is currently receiving treatment at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Asaba, for stab wounds he sustained from an attack by three men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
Ikpeteshi was attacked in his farm at the Asaba Industrial Estate on Saturday, along with his wife, while working in his farm.
Narrating his ordeal to our reporter, he said the attackers had in the past brought their herds of cattle to destroy his crops in the farm, but that on the day of the attack they came purposely with the intention of killing him as they did not come with their cattle.
The victim said two of the men pounced on his wife, hitting her with clubs, while the third attacked him with a dagger, leaving him in a pool of his own blood.
Ikpeteshi stated that he and his wife ran to a camp in the Industrial Estate and found the attackers, who were repremanded by their leaders, adding that four men in the camp volunteered to take him to a hospital for treatment.
The farmer called on the state government to chase away the camp dwellers from the Industrial Estate as they constituted a security risk which could scare prospective investors.
He said the case was later reported to the Police ‘B’ Division, Asaba.
When contacted, the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident.
