The Federal College of Education (Technical) Bichi on Saturday held a grand sixth convocation ceremony for 6,857 graduates who graduated between 2016 to 2020.
The combined convocation ceremony was held at the school’s premises in Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State.
Speaking at the occasion, the Provost of the College, Prof. Bashir Muhammad Fagge, said the total of 6,857 students graduated from the institution between 2016 and 2020.
He said the college presented awards to some students for their outstanding performances during the period under review.
He added that some prominent personalities were also awarded for their immense contributions to the development of the college.
Prof. Fagge however identified inadequate funding and decline in the number of students coming to the college as some of the challenges bidevilling the institution.
On his part, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu described technical education as indispensable to the economic development of Nigeria.
The minister reiteared the Federal Government’s commitment towards uplifting the standard of education at all levels, aimed at transforming human civilization.
Malam Adamu, represented by the Director Colleges of Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Onyeake Nwabgwo said, since the inception of the present Administration, a policy has been made in ensuring that education occupy its pride as a vital tool of transforming civilization.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari was very passionate in according education the much needed attention geared towards developing the sector.
“In this Regard federal government recently approved additional six Colleges of Education representing six Geopolitical Zones of the country to bridge the gap in Teacher Education,which has now bring the total Number of FCE’s to 27 Nationwide”
Adamu added that the College’s of Education Sub sector plays a vital role in the Nation’s technological development,which was a major pillar of the Nation’s Economy.
Earlier, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state, represented by his Deputy, Dr Nasir Yusif Gawuna said Education remains the the Priority of his Administration.
“we’ve made Basic Education free and compulsory in Kano, our administration is working tirelessly in uplifting the Standard of Education at all levels”
Awards of Excellence were presented to some personalities in recognition of their immense contributions to the development of the college.
Some of the awardees includ wife of governor of Kano State, Professor Hafsat Ganduje, Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State and Senator Barau Jibrin, representing Kano north senatorial district, mong others.
In a convocation lecture, titled Out of School Children as an Educational Menace: Towards a Policy Framework for Taming the Scourge in Nigeria, Prof.
Abdulrashid Garba, Professor of Educational Guidance and Counselling
Department of Education, Bayero University Kano, described out of school children as an educational menace with an overall objective of evolving a handy tripartite policy framework for taming the scourge in Nigeria.
He attributed the escalation of out-of-school children to imposition of COVID-19 protocols that resulted to closure of schools.
He added that “Both the COVID 19 protocols and the closure of schools have in no small measure escalated the problem of the out of school children,”
