A female food vendor in Benin City was yesterday, allegedly slaughtered by a suspected revenue collector (now at large).
Reports have it that the victim was attacked in a makeshift kitchen in Butcher Street, off Mission Road near king square by the revenue collector while requesting for undisclosed daily revenue from the woman.
The victim who hails from Enugu State, was said to have begged for little time to enable her finish cooking and attend to few customers in order to raise the money and pay for the ticket, but her plea fell in deaf ears.
It was gathered that the victim had survived hot edible oil removed from a burner in the kitchen and splashed on her by the suspect.
The woman’s Captor was said to have shut the exit door to the kitchen against the victim before using the machete to mutilate her body including her thigh, rib cage, head and arms.
The bewildered traders lost their patience and protested to Lagos Street police post where they were told that no police operational van was available to assist the dying woman who could only mutter words in the pool of her own blood.
The traders who described the bizarre incident as one too many, stating that the Lagos Street police post has ceased to be a destination to solving problems including murder related cases.
They called for an end to impunity and alleged extortions by Street urchins loyal to a prominent musician resident in the area.
In a telephone interview with Oba market Divisional police officer, CSP (Mrs) Betty Otimenyin denied knowledge of the incident.
