The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Taraba State Chapter, Rev. Dr. Williams Awoshiri, has called on Tarabans to commit to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and responsible citizenship in the state.
Awoshiri disclosed this during the CAN combined service in Jalingo, with a theme, “God’s Mercy”.
He noted that peace and security are indispensable foundations for sustainable development, social harmony, and economic progress.
While commending the Taraba State Government and security agencies to addressing security challenges, he urged them to intensify efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering and community-based security partnerships.
“The Christian Association of Nigeria, Taraba State Chapter, sincerely
commends the Taraba State Government and our security agencies for the
visible efforts made in addressing security challenges across the state. We recognize the sacrifices of our security personnel who daily put their lives at risk to protect our communities and preserve peace.
“We also acknowledge that security remains an ongoing concern in certain areas. We respectfully call on the government to intensify its efforts by strengthening intelligence gathering, increasing security presence in vulnerable communities, and fostering community-based security partnerships”.
He also urged spiritual leaders to use the pulpit responsibly for the promotion godly values, peace, and moral discipline.
“I urge all ministers to use the pulpit responsibly, ensuring that our preaching builds faith, promotes godly values, encourages peace, and nurtures moral discipline. The pulpit must never become a platform for personal attacks, hate speech, incitement, or reckless utterances that may deepen divisions in our society.
“While the Church maintains a prophetic role in speaking truth to power, anycriticism of government or leadership must be done constructively, prayerfully, and with a spirit of wisdom and patriotism. Our goal must always be correction with compassion, advocacy with humility, and truth spoken in love for the good of all,” he said.
