A Jalingo Chief Magistrate Court has sentenced a 45 year old man, Alfred Ejeh of Nyabunkaka Ward, Jalingo, to nine months imprisonment or an option of N5, 000.00 fines, for causing grievous hurt to one Nnaji Godwin.
The first Information Report, FIR revealed that on August 12, 2014, the convict broke the leg of the complainant Nnaji Godwin after a brief scuffle and was treated at the Specialist Hospital in Jalingo.
Delivering judgment, the Chief Magistrate, Ali Bappa said the sentence was made in the interest of Justice and to serve as a lesson to the convict and to the general public.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Usman Dahiru prayed the court to grant the complainant Nnaji Godwin N6, 000.00 compensation under the provision of section 78 of the Penal Code since the convict has admitted guilt.
Responding, the Chief Magistrate, Ali Bappa said the prosecution ought to explain evidence of how such expenses were incurred and awarded a cost of N4, 000. 00 to the complainant. (NAN)
