Youth groups in Taraba State have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 10 Division in the state, describing the development as a major boost to security and peace efforts in the region.

The groups made their position known on Wednesday during a joint peaceful rally in Jalingo, where they expressed appreciation to the President, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for the establishment of the new Army formation.

Speaking at the rally, spokesperson of the Taraba People’s Movement, Comrade Umar Sani Bello, said the gathering was organised to express the groups’ gratitude to the President for what he described as a significant intervention in the state’s security situation.

Bello said the establishment of the 10 Division had generated excitement among residents and renewed their hope for lasting peace in Taraba.

He assured the Nigerian Army of the support and cooperation of the people of the state, saying the youth movement was ready to work with the new formation to promote peace and security.

“Our gratitude goes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who looked upon Taraba with compassion and gave us this mighty shield.

“We also extend our profound thanks to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Army Staff, under whose watchful leadership this dream has taken concrete form. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and our hearts are full,” Bello said.

He added that the groups had prepared letters of appreciation to the President, the CDS and the COAS, which would be presented through the Commander of the 6 Brigade, Jalingo.

Bello said the letters were intended as a token of appreciation for the establishment of the new division and the leadership of the Armed Forces in addressing security challenges in the state.

“This is our victory, and together we will build the peace our children deserve,” he said.

Also speaking, spokesperson of the Arewa Youth Assembly, Aliyu Mohammad Sani, described the creation of the 10 Division as a historic development which, according to him, demonstrated President Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his promises.

Sani said the new division would strengthen security operations in Taraba and provide additional support for communities across the North-East.

He said residents had for years called for a stronger security presence capable of responding effectively to the peculiar security challenges and terrain of the region.

“This division is a fortress for Taraba and a shield for the entire North-East. For too long, our communities cried out for a force that understood our landscape, our fears and our hopes, and Mr President answered that cry,” Sani said.

The youth leader also commended the recent salary increase for Armed Forces personnel, describing it as a morale booster for soldiers serving on the front lines.

He said the improved remuneration would demonstrate recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel and their families.

Sani further commended the CDS and COAS for their leadership and efforts toward tackling insecurity, saying their commitment had renewed public confidence in the country’s security architecture.

The youth groups pledged continued support for security agencies and called on residents to cooperate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure that the establishment of the 10 Division translates into sustainable peace and development in Taraba State.
