Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 27 year-old man, Tosin Owolola for abducting a traffic warden at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta; the Ogun State on Saturday 16th August.

The incident occurred when the traffic warden was at his duty post at Iyana Mortuary in Abeokuta and flagged down the man driving his car against the traffic but the suspect hit the traffic warden and he (warden) fell on the bonnet of the car.

The suspect kept on driving for a distance, more than four kilometers, with the traffic warden on his bonnet.

A release by the Command’s image maker, Olumuyiwa Adejobi indicated that it took the efforts of the members of the public and other police men on patrol, who were called on distress, to rescue the traffic warden from the man, at Kemta Idi-Aba jungle, where he drove to.

Adejobi said the suspect, a technician with Ordinary National Diploma in Business Studies from the Lagos State Polytechnic, who hails from Imo, Abeokuta, was heavily drunk.

The Commissioner of Police Ogun state, CP Ikemefuna Okoye has directed that the suspect be subjected to some medical examinations before he would be charged to court to face the full wrath of the law, saying that such will serve as deterrent to others who are fond of harassing and assaulting security agents on duty.

The Commissioner of Police also warned that such acts will no longer be tolerated, stressing that the Command will take the welfare of its personnel serious.

He urged the general public to accord adequate respect to all security agents who are being deployed to perform their statutory and/or special duties within the state and in general.
