The Global Centre for Humanitarian Services, Peace and Development (GLOHSPED) has lauded the success recorded by the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF, in the past weeks in the Lake Chad Region.
The Centre spoke through its president- Mr. Collins Ogokeh-Green, noting that the targeted and strategic efforts of the joint military task force that resulted in bombardment of suspected dens of terrorist group led to the deaths of their leaders and members as contained in statement released by the Army headquarters through its public relations officer, Colonel Isa Sagir.
“The military has in the past decade been involved in the fight to protect the nation and its boarder especially in the North East against threat and aggression of the Boko Haram and its splinte group- Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) whose activity has been link with ISIS in the last few years.
“Nevertheless, the response of our military through its leadership and support of the President Muhammadu Buhari have been decisive and effective in quelling the threats posed by the insurgents.
“ The bravery, courage and gallantry exuded by the military are typical trademark manifested in both international and regional engagement and peace mission efforts.
“ In their bid (MNJTF) to wipe out insurgency, it is important that the citizenry and leaders in the affected states and beyond to continuously provide vital information and support the military as security is everybody business.”
The Centre described the target of soft spot and innocent civilians by the terrorist group as act of cowardice and utter decimation by the military.
It noted that, “the recent execution of an aid worker and kidnap of about 6 others two months ago by the terrorist group in a bid to cheap points; is by no means justifiable. In the same vein, they call on relevant authorities to duly investigate the accusation of an NGO in the region for supporting Boko Haram insurgents which led to the close down of their office by the military. “
Mr. Collins Ogokeh-Green vehemently condemned media reports that attempt to/ reinforce the influence of terrorists thereby undermining the gains of the military.
He stated that the culture of hiding the criminals as reported by the military headquarters by residents in the towns of Borno and Yobe states is a disservice to the nation and a dent on the efforts of the military and resources deployed in the fight against terrorism.
He called on perpetrators of this atrocious act to desist from such practice and report fleeing fugitives to the troops or face the wrath of the law.
He also called on the federal government to better equip the military with modern military firepower/ hardware and technology as well as improve the welfare and remuneration package of servicemen for increased motivation to deliver their mandate.
“The military in the same vein, improve their intelligence gathering system, operational strategy and work in synergy as well improve relationship with the citizenry in the fight to combat insecurity in the country,” he said.
