Theft: Court grants bus conductor bail

A Grade 1 Area court in Aso Pada, in Mararaba, , has granted bail to a bus conductor, Patrick Odey, 21, who allegedly trespassed into a mechanic workshop and stole two car speakers. .

The accused, who resides beside All Christian Fellowship Church, Mararaba, is facing a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

The presiding judge, Mr. Albert Maga, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Maga said that the surety must be a responsible citizen with landed property, and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.

He also ordered that the surety write an undertaking that the accused would not commit similar offences pending determination of the case.

Maga, however, adjourned the case until July 10 for hearing.

The accused was first arraigned on June 13 on two-count charges of criminal trespass and theft and was remanded in Keffi prison.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Enumaje, told the court that on June 8, Mustapha Sani of KAPDA Market lodged a complaint against the accused at ‘A’ Division Police Station in Mararaba.

Enumaje said that on June 8 at about 1.30 a.m., Sani went his mechanic workshop located near KAPDA market, and found the accused inside a parked Nissan Sunny car that was in his care.

“The accused stole two pioneer speakers of the car,’’ the prosecutor alleged.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
